Despite the ubiquitous use of closed-loop automation in engineering applications ranging from power grids to the automatic pilots on airliners, there has been very little development of closed loop devices for medical applications. The obstacles are numerous, but the potential applicability of these systems is so great that recent years have seen advances in sedation, insulin therapy for diabetes, ventilator management, and much more.
Sironis is a global leader in closed-loop fluid resuscitation. Our research team includes world-experts in hemodynamic monitoring and medical closed-loop development. The ultimate goal for LIR, and indeed our development of closed-loop systems in general, is to improve patient care through the reduction of error and the standardization of treatment. With the stability achievable with well-designed automated systems we hope to improve surgical and ICU outcomes with a concomitant decrease in health care costs.
To date, research on the LIR system has presented at multiple international scientific meetings (The American Society of Anesthesiologists, the International Society for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine, The European Society of Anesthesiologists, and the International Anesthesia Research Society) and has been published in several peer-reviewed scientific journals.
